Eugene Petit (1839-1886) and Jules Diéterle (1811-1889) One of four tapestries
woven set in 1865, this unit was destined for the Elysée Palace dining-room
(today, residence of the French President). It thus supplemented decoration
made up of large ornamental panels, such as the tops of mantelpiece and "entrefenêtres"
ordered by Napoleon 3rd and his wife Empress Eugenie in 1861. Initially intended
to be woven at the Goblins', it was finally contracted to the Manufacture of
Beauvais. Paris, Mobilier National (State-owned furniture).
