Woven
in the XVth century (probably in Flanders), "the Lady and the Unicorn" is a
set of the six tapestries, five of which illustrate the senses. The Taste, one
of the five senses is the central element of this scene. The monkey, placed
in the bottom of the tapestry finishes the young woman's gesture, and takes
to it mouth the sugared almond which it holds. The lady takes a piece of candy
from a dish offered to her by the maidservant. She pays all her attention to
the superb parakeet which holds a sugared almond with its claws.
